Section 8
Computer Teams
Head Coach allows either or both teams to be controlled by the computer.
This enables you to play a game against the computer, or have the computer
control both teams and watch the game!
In order for a team to be computer controlled, "player type/computer" must
be selected on the Head Coach setup scren or use the ".CT" dot command if
you are already playing a game. Section 7, Dot Commands, explains the use
of the ".CT" dot command.
If both teams are playing a game under computer control, you may regain
player control of the team currently on offense by pressing and holding the
CTRL key and the C key simultaneously. The next time an offense is
required, the offensive team will be switched to a player controlled team.
Smart Modes
When a team is computer controlled, the play calls are made based upon the
game plan. Section 8, The Game Plan, describes the game plan file. A
computer controlled team has six "smart modes".
With smart mode set to "off", Head Coach will select the plays based upon
the game plan, with no adjustments. With smart mode set to one, Head Coach
will adjust the probability of calling the same play in the same situation,
based upon the success or failure of the play just called.
Smart modes two through five result in Head Coach analyzing the opponents
offensive or defensive formation before making the play call. This
requires that the audibles mode be enabled (see Section 7, Dot Commands,
the AU command).
A smart mode setting of five will analyze the opponents' formation on every
call.
Smart modes two through four will result in a progressively "smarter"
computer team, by analyzing more play calls. Note that as the computer
team gets "smarter", more time is required to make the play calls.
